Escalator Step Covers

Purpose

Escalator Step Covers protect an existing escalator during remodel.
They make an efficient use of manpower.
They are durable, reusable, and cost effective.
They are easy to use.
They meet safety guidelines.

Safety and Durability:

Made from white .060 HDPE plastic.
A 2″ wide safety non-slip strip has been pre-applied several inches in from the toe of each Step Cover.
This non-slip strip aids the workers by minimizing slip-fall potentials.
The contrasting color makes each covered escalator step highly visible for worker safety.

How it came about..

This item was developed for our own escalator replacement project.
The project consisted of removing an existing escalator and replacing it with a new escalator.
Getting escalators out of their existing location require removing whatever clgs that are directly above or overhead.
After an new escalator is in place, those clgs must be replaced, which traditionally requires working directly on top of a NEW escalator.
Not an ideal scenario.

Why you want this.

You don’t want to get framing or drywall screws stuck in between and on the sides of these brand new escalator steps.
Or chunks of drywall, drywall dust, and taping mud and paint, or welding rod and welding slag, or concrete, ..or anything else down in between new escalator steps.
Covering and protecting these escalator steps takes a considerable length of time.
That time is also labor.
That labor is expensive.
Envision folding 2 layers of visqueen of plastic over some steps ..and at the same time, up the sides of the steps.
It’s like oragami, or like trying to wrap a present from inside out !!
Lots of fun.
There has to be a better way!

Solution !

Here enters the HDPE molded and formed REUSABLE escalator step protective cover.
The cover is made one preformed piece that lays on the step.
It turns up on the sides and the riser.
The next cover lays on the step above, overlapping the lower cover.

1. Tape the bottom cover in place,
2. Tape the overlaps of the next cover above it,
3. Repeat the process until you reach the top.
4. Done !

REUSABLE.
